In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic Delta changed its previously strict (and expensive) ticket cancellation and change policies and charges. In its most current update there are no change charges on tickets for the following class of fare for flights departing from North America:
Main Cabin
Comfort
First Class
Delta Premium Select
Delta One
At present, delta airlines reservations continues to offer a reduction in change fees for Delta tickets that originate in other countries outside North America, except for Basic Economy tickets.
If you decide to alter your ticket for a new flight, you'll need to pay the difference in cost, if higher. If you choose to cancel your flight, or if the new fare is lower you'll receive a credit towards future travel. Credits are usually valid for one year after the date of purchase.
However, this leaves plenty of flexibility for those eager to travel however, as board member Joe C discovered, future flight credits aren't without limits. "Booked a [flight] last year only to be told that my trip was canceled and I'd receive a 'credit' for future travel," the user wrote. "Tried to book a new reservation in 2021 only to be told the [price] had quintupled! Gee, thanks Delta .... Bait and switch post-COVID...now I know why they gave a travel credit instead of a refund!"
The option of standing by for a more efficient flight will cost $75, unless you're a Delta Gold Medallion elite or greater.
